Robert "Bob" Straka

Obituary

Robert H. Straka was born September 10th, 1930 in Atkinson, NE to Henry Straka Jr. and Cecelia (Kollman) Straka.  Bob attended country school at District 169.

Bob farmed with his Dad 6 miles southwest of Atkinson raising hogs and cattle.  Bob served in the U.S. Army from March 13, 1952 to March 12, 1954 attaining the rank of corporal.  He returned home to the family farm after his discharge.  He was in the Army Reserves until March of 1960.  Bob belonged to the Atkinson American Legion Post No. 86 for over 60 years and was a past Post Commander and past member of its “firing squad.”  He was a member of the Knights of Columbus for many years and also a member of the NRA.

Bob loved animals of all kinds and raised rat terrier and Border collie dogs for many years.  He was especially proud of his long horn cattle.

On May 17, 1978 he married Mary Collins Laible in Atkinson and became a husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather.  He really enjoyed telling tall tales and stories of how things were “way back then.”
