Linda Tunender

Obituary

Linda Adele Tunender died Monday July 10, 2017 at Good Samaritan Society in Atkinson, Nebraska.
She was diagnosed with breast cancer in March 2015 and fought hard for a year to be cancer free, but unfortunately the cancer returned January of 2017 and she lost the battle.

Linda was born in Imperial, NE on January 15, 1945 to Roy and Ora (Blackledge) Handel.  She was the youngest of three girls. Her sisters where Dorthy and Nelda.  The family lived in Wauneta, NE.  Linda graduated high school and went to Kearney State College to become a teacher which brought her to Atkinson.  She met Eugene Tunender and they were married May 24, 1969 in Atkinson and together they had two children, Debra and Daniel.  They divorced October 7, 1989 but still got along well.

Linda worked at Seger’s Café, Godfathers Pizza, The Innkeeper, Pizza Hut and finally the Good Samaritan Society where she retired.  She enjoyed crochet, knitting, many other crafts, fantasy game play, animals and family time.  Just before her death she was able to see and hear the voice of her son she gave up for adoption in 1968, David West.  To see him and her great grandsons was her last wish.

Linda leaves behind 3 children David West of Omaha, Debra Hamik and husband Bruce of Atkinson, and Daniel Tunender of Fremont; 8 grandchildren Mary, Tony, Emily, Isaac, Abby, Bryce, Daniel, & Chelsey; 2 great grandsons Liam and Matthew; her sisters Dorthy Lohr of Lusk, WY and Nelda Hallner of Grand Island; extended family and friends.

Linda had a wonderful heart and would do whatever possible to help someone else.
