A memorial service to celebrate the life of Gale Alvin Graham, age 61, of Ralston, Nebraska will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 28th, 2017 at the Faith Community Church in O’Neill, NE with Pastor Joel Wentworth officiating.
Gale was born on February 7th, 1955 at Burwell, Nebraska to Frank and Alice (Horky) Graham and died suddenly on Sunday, January 22nd 2017 at Bergen-Mercy Hospital in Omaha.
Gale married Candy McLaughlin on April 26th, 1980. They had two children, Steven C Edward & Sherry Lee.
Gale later married Brenda Peterson Friedel on February 14, 1999, in the Green Valley Sunday School church near Atkinson NE with Pastor Joel Wentworth officiating.
He loved “most” things farming & trucking. After school, he started working @ Briggs Feedlot outside of Seward, NE. In 1980, he moved to the Bartlett, NE area where he started farming for Ash Grove Land Company, then moved on to the N & M Farms. In 1986, he joined with others in the area to form Bartlett Partnership & continued to farm – a lifestyle more than a job. He also enjoyed being a hunting guide when they formed Beaver Valley Outdoorsmen & working with the hunting dogs while training them. During those years, he & Mitch Race from Bartlett also developed & manned the Homestead Marketing commodity trading co. which was in Neligh NE. When the Partnership dissolved in 2006, he knew he would miss those daily conversations with lifetime friends, Roger & Mitch Race, & Lonny Dwinnell from Chambers, NE. However, he then went to work for friends, Lowell & Vicki Krieger north of O’Neill at their farming/feedlot facilities. In 2008, Gale & Brenda moved to Columbia SC to be closer to her daughters. The idea of maybe being able to retire in a more “temperate” zone sounded delightful. While there, he felt very blessed to obtain a job at FedEx National & trucked both locally & drove line haul to Charlotte NC some nights. Gale & Brenda moved back to Nebraska in 2010, finding out that they didn’t mind the cold & fresh air so much after all. Gale’s job with FedEx transferred to Omaha & later, when FedEx National merged in with FedEx Freight, Gale worked out of the Council Bluffs facility where he was employed when he passed away. He gained a good fishing buddy in Tim & a good wood-working buddy in Paul amongst the many employees he enjoyed working with. He talked often about Mark & Rich, his supervisors, & “the girls” who really ran the place ;-)
Gale’s passion was to fish & he would go up to his Mom’s in SD & fish with his brother Frankie on the Missouri River in his prized possession – the fishing boat. He loved playing cards, reminiscing, & watching movies with his Mom, sisters, & brother while he was there.
Brenda & Gale enjoyed going to the east coast visiting all the kids & grandkids who lived there & getting in some good beach time while also taking in the history of our nation’s beginnings.
Besides Green Valley Sunday School, Gale & Brenda were blessed with the fellowship of other Christians at Faith Community Church in O’Neill NE, Shenandoah Baptist Church in Columbia, SC, & Reality Church in Papillion NE.
Gale is preceded in death by his father, Frank Graham; step-father Orlin Warnsholz; & brother Raymond Graham.
Surviving relatives are his wife, Brenda Graham of Ralston NE; son Steven (Mel) Graham of Neligh NE; daughter Sherry (Sean) Deuell of Glen Burnie MD; mother Alice Warnsholz of Springfield SD; mother-in-law Shirley Peterson of Atkinson NE; siblings Sharon (Gaylon) Johnson of Yankton SD, Sylvia (Dale) Kamprath of Springfield SD, Gloria (Francis) Waegli of Seward NE, & Frankie Graham of Springfield SD; stepchildren Jesse (Jen) Friedel of Burke VA, Jena (Tim) Friedel/Ransom of Efland NC, & Jolinda (Josh) Fisher of Charlottesville VA. Grandchildren are Morgan, LeeAnnah, Jenna, Trinity, & Riddick; step grandchildren are Austin, Aubrey, Joslyn & Jacquelyn; & a host of stepbrothers, stepsisters, nieces & nephews.
